About

I am here to recall the magic in the world.

I was born in Lebanon in 1979 and started creating as a child during the war, finding support and entertainment in my inner world. I taught myself drawing and illustration, and although I majored as a graphic designer and then worked in animation, I soon decided that employment would only stunt my creative growth. Going freelance, I got involved in mail art, learned bookbinding, experimented with mixed media and watercolour, exhibited artwork and travel photography. I created and published Lebanon’s first adventure comic series, Malaak: Angel of Peace, and the humorous comic Driving in Lebanon. A collaboration with my mother Youmna Jazzar produced the celebrated, thirteen-volume Lebanese Heritage series for young readers in three languages. I was apprenticed to a master calligrapher for several years while creating computer games for one of the Middle-East’s first game developers.

In 2013 I moved to London and dedicated myself to the pursuit of art based in the ancient Kufic script, as presented on Majnouna.com. I still draw and illustrate for my own pleasure. My designs are available on various products and in several publications, which you’ll find in my Shops.

I love cooking and baking, but my main personal activity is walking in nature. My relationship with the Earth lead me to switch to an almost completely plastic-free and zero-waste life, and I created For Love of the Earth as a repository of ways to be more gentle on the planet. Our animal brothers and sisters were my first love and I’m a proud member of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.
